You have to finalize a wedding venue, prepare the guest list, choose a wedding theme, purchase jewelry, dresses, and the list goes on forever. Moreover, you need to decide the budget for your wedding and then focus on roughly distributing the budget among various categories. So, let us dive right into the nitty and gritty of how to plan an Indian wedding.

Plan months ahead of the wedding

Let’s face it besides saying “I’ll be there for you in both good and bad times,” you have a lot more on your plate. You will feel excited, stressed, anxious and overwhelmed all at the same time. Most often you will find yourself wondering where to begin? But don’t worry we’ve got you covered. All you have to do is weave a plan and organize your wedding months ahead of the D-day. Not only this but also planning will be your stress removal therapy.

So, you have to start by asking yourself a few questions. Do you want a traditional, themed wedding, or a conventional wedding? How many events do you think will fit in a two-day or a three-day wedding? Will you print wedding cards or send an invitation through emails? You see as soon as you start asking all these questions you enter the pre-planning phase of your wedding. And the good news is, by the end of the day you will have a prepared list of logistics, music decorations, catering, food, guests, and a lot more.

Set a budget and don’t think about overspending

People tend to spend a lot on their weddings and the tradition of spending money on an Indian wedding is quite evident. For instance, look at all the celebrity weddings that have happened in the last few years. They were not just grand but also a great source of inspiration for the couples looking forward to getting married. In my personal opinion, there are several ways to plan a budget and to restrict yourself to the decided budget.

To begin with, you can take help from people who have recently gone through the wedding procedure. Or you can simply hire a professional wedding planner. There are tons of wedding planners out there and some of them have their digital resume displayed on different online platforms. You can also visit some of the best wedding planners in your city or go through their online portfolios. This will help you get an idea about how much you can spend on your wedding. Nevertheless, also keep a buffer working on your budget. Because you don’t want to spend more than you decide in the first place.

Pick a wedding theme

You can pick a singular theme, to begin with, and then move ahead and decide what decorations will match your wedding theme. In fact, always keep in mind that the wedding theme will help you decide what aligns with your wedding. Be it a flower-based wedding theme or a robust Bollywood theme, you have to be specific. So, ensure that you pick a theme that enhances the essence of a typical Indian wedding. For instance, a royal theme is a fine way to showcase Indian culture and a Bollywood theme is a modern way to represent both art and romance. After all, the foundation of a wedding depends on a powerful theme.

Make a Rational Guest List

When you are running low on the budget, it is wise to reduce the guest list. You see keeping the guest list to a minimum can help you save a lot of money. In fact, you need to ask yourself a question. Do you really need 800 guests at your wedding? I am sure you don’t even know most of them and the ones you know will count up to a maximum of 100. So, try to incorporate closed ones, friends, and some of the distant relatives on your wedding guest list. And in the end, if you think your budget can fit in a few more guests, go ahead and invite them. Although, you should try to  keep the guest list short.

Try to purchase off-season

If you are looking for a popular dress during a popular time, you are more likely to spend more than you imagined. This is why it is best to buy an expensive dress in the off-season. It is quite possible that you will get good offers on the dress you always wanted to wear. What’s more, you also might be lucky enough to get a 70% discount. And the good news is, the same dress would have cost you a lot of money otherwise. So, consider off-season as an opportunity to lay your hands on something you always wished to wear at your wedding.
