Are you someone who despite having an extremely important task ends up wasting time and is fed up with this habit? Well, you are not alone. We all have been there and honestly, even after so much struggle, a lot of us are still there. So, no matter who you are, what you do, if you have recognized that you may be wasting time without even knowing at times, this blog will help you get out of that trap.\
Start by Making a Plan
The most prominent reason why we waste time knowingly as well as unknowingly is that we don’t have a plan. When we don’t know what to do, when to do, and from where to begin, we end up wasting a significant amount of time.
How many times has it happened to you that you know what all you are supposed to do but just because you didn’t plan or write everything down, you ended up moving from one task to another thinking what to do, which one to start, or how to begin? This is pretty normal but definitely not acceptable.
So, in order to stop wasting time, this is where we begin. Plan your day out. No, you are not supposed to just make a to-do list and start working on the tasks. Instead, make a to-do list, prioritize tasks and put them in time slots. Setting a deadline is extremely important as that is what’s going to help you complete the tasks on time.
With a to-do list you know the destination but there is no direction, with time management you carve the way towards that destination with success.
Uninstall Social Media Apps
Social media is one such distraction that can consume as many as 3 hours without you even realizing. Even if there is nothing that needs your attention, you end up mindlessly scrolling through social media apps for more than just 5 minutes. No matter how much you try to avoid it, push the notifications off, there is a chance that you will still mindlessly pick up your phone and end up scrolling it for several minutes. Our subconscious mind is used to this pattern. So, to avoid this, you will have to uninstall the social media apps. When you don’t have an application installed in your phone, the frequency of checking your phone reduces by half.
Even if you start using the website version of the app, there is still a significant difference in the time you invest in social media when you have the application versus when you don’t.
Delete as many applications as you can.
Keep Your Phone in Another Room
Now, there are people who, even though there’s absolutely nothing in the phone, keep checking their phones. Again, this is our subconscious mind that is following the pattern because it has been trained this way. It knows that there is a phone around you that you need to check, for no specific reason.
If you are addicted to your phone, you can certainly relate to this. And if that is the case you need to start keeping your phone at a distance. The farther, the better. A lot of people practice and suggest tucking your phone in another room, especially at night. It helps you stay connected to the work you are doing, focus on yourself, and sleep better. If not in another room, at least keep it at a distance so that every time you have to use your phone you will have to get out of your seat.
If you intend to stop wasting time and be more productive, you will have to dedicate some time for breaks. These breaks don’t have to be lengthy, just a 5 minute break after every task, or maybe a 20 minute break after every 2 hours. However suits you, just take breaks so that you can feel fresh and ready to grind at work again.
Avoid using your phone or social media in these breaks. Do something that will help you relax. Meditate, stretch, breathe, go out for a walk, or eat something. If you plan to stretch the break a little more than 20 minutes because you didn’t take any break earlier and you have completed a major task, consider playing some game. Games like minecraft are known to have beneficial effects on the brain. They help you relax and simultaneously improve your interpersonal skill set. Check out these New Minecraft Servers, they are amazing.
